Dental Assistant National Board Certification

WDAS provides Students with Optional Pathways to become DANB Certified

While certification is not required to be a practicing dental assistant in the state of Wisconsin, gaining certification through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB), as either a National Entry Level Dental Assistant (NELDA) or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), is an excellent step in your career.

If you’re interested in pursuing DANB certification after graduating from our Green Bay dental assistant school, you must submit your application to the DANB with the $50 (non-refundable) fee. After it’s been accepted, you have a 60 day window to schedule and take the required exams, highlighted below:

NELDA Certification

To receive your NELDA Certification, you must pass three exams. There is no eligibility requirement.

  • Radiation Health and Safety (RHS)
  • Infection Control Exam (ICE)
  • Anatomy, Morphology and Physiology (AMP)

CDA CertificationGreen Bay Dental Assistant Courses

To become a Certified Dental Assistant, three exams are required. Two have no eligibility requirements and the third requires a set amount of training to become eligible to take the General Chairside Exam (GC).

Exams with no eligibility requirements:

  • Radiation Health and Safety Exam (RHS)
  • Infection Control Exam (ICE)

Third exam eligibility requirements:

  • Work 3,500 hours as a Dental Assistant OR minimum of 2 years work experience plus a High School Degree or equivalent
  • CPR certification from accepted DANB provider

Once the work hours are completed, you become eligible to take the GC.

Exam Information as of May 2016

RHS (Radiation Health and Safety): Stand-alone exam $250, 1 ¼ hours, 100 questions

ICE (Infection Control Exam): Stand-alone exam $250, 1 ¼ hours, 100 questions

If both of the above exams are taken at the same time: $325

GC (General Chairside): Stand-alone exam $250, 1 ½ hours, 120 questions

AMP (Anatomy, Morphology and Physiology): Stand-alone exam $225, 80 minutes, 105 questions

DANB Accepted CPR, BLS and ACLS Providers

The following is a list of course providers accepted by the DANB, meeting their certification and recertification requirements. All courses include CPR and a hands-on exam:

It’s always a good idea to double check with each course provider to ensure it meets DANB requirements.

WDAS offers an American Heart Association CPR course 3 times per year. Contact us to find out when the next class will take place.
