Preparing to Be a Certified Dental Assistant

While dental assisting certificate programs can range in length, Weekend Dental Assistant School’s is just 10 weeks long.  Weekend Dental Assistant School welcomes anyone with the desire to learn dental assisting. If you are a high school graduate or a high school senior with adequate grades, able to pay your tuition, and want to learn dental assisting, you will be accepted into our program.  Dental assisting certificate programs generally focus on the technical aspects of the occupation, including dental radiography, chair-side assisting and dental materials.

Dental Assistants are not required to be licensed in Michigan. Only RDA licensed individuals or those who have completed approved radiography training may take radiographs though. Dental Assistants may also obtain recognition as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by passing the  aspiring candidates need to pass a licensing exam and complete a state-approved training program. These professionals can obtain a certification from the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB).

Skill Set

 Apart from the knowledge in patient care, Orthodontic Assistants must own a wide range of skills. Personable, compassionate and enjoy working with people are essential traits to have as a dental assistant. The job outlook for an Orthodontic Assistant remains excellent in USA. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average national annual salary of a Dental Assistant for 2019 is  $41,170 with a mean of $19.79 per hour.
